Zander and Zander confirm what I have already learned that our vision of perspectives seems to be formed by each individual through the experiences we have lived. Each person can practice transforming their perception of their own experiences. Each response to each experience is mapped from our past experience. While practicing transformation we can learn to look at our reactions by what we could be assuming and how we have been conditioned to respond. Next we can see if there are other options that we have not experienced.
“In the measurement world, you set a goal and strive for it. In the universe of possibility, you set a context and let life unfold” (page 21) This concept is hard for me to understand. At work I can barely get a directive of what the goal is, I could only imagine asking for context. I believe before I could understand this, I will have to try it in my personal life first. I have just begun learning how to compare data and measure with results that do not match. This is a different concept compared to my probability and statistics classes were you could only measure apples to apples in the same situation or it was not valid.
I do however like the concept of looking at what is possible instead of looking at the hurdles of why it has not been possible in the past. I am really interested in showing others that they are not going to be measured, but instead showing them what is possible.
I will practice using the word contribution when talking to others in my service area at work. Currently everyone is out to succeed. I am supposed to be part of a team to succeed. When I call them to participate, instead of asking them if I can help them, I will ask what they can contribute. I will also let them know what part I will contribute. Great idea. I will let you all know how it works out.
Last night my boyfriend just handed me the book titled, "The Four Agreements" (1997), by Miguel Angel Ruiz. which compliments the Art of Possibility. Ia m n the same situation as Drew Fulton. His employment is possibly being threatened and so is mine. Our school is looking to cut yet another 1.17 million. The question administrators are looking at is, do we really need an educational access channel and to pay someone to run it. I on the other hand have to prove its validity. I fear my job as well as what I will do if I lose it. Last year I feared what I would do because of the 6k pay cut. Now the pay cut seems to mean nothing as I fear losing even more.

Sunny,
ReplyDeleteFrom reading your post it looks like you are in a position where you really need to connect those nine dots by expanding your boundaries. It seems like you need to be a catalyst for change at work, reassure those around you not to fear measurement, and at the same time you are in a position were fear of loosing your job is very real. Others are likely feeling the same lack of stability you feel.
I hope you are able to generate the paradigm shift needed at your work place. The use of the word collaboration seems to be a smart way to call your coworkers to cooperation instead of fear and competition. I would like to hear how this works for you.

Thanks for sharing your insights into the reading and where it speaks to you. It can be such a worn out cliche, but it's when we're tested and challenged that we really get to see what it is we believe in for our lives. Does it inspire us or tear us down? Does it open us up to new possibilities or does it makes us spin in ever smaller circles? These are things that one cannot know until we're in it. I trust that you, Drew and all of those anticipating even great challenges find the strength, vision and opportunity to see this through to the next level.
