Wk1 Leadership Blog Post: Leadership Role Model: Ann Knisel

Funny that this week’s assignment is to chose a leadership style that I respect. It was just last week that I decided I enjoy our public relation coordinator and how I look up to her. She mostly moves slightly in between participative and delegative, yet she can be autocratic if she needs to be. Her other qualities are that she is honest, upfront and caring. She gets the job done, not by authority or hierarchy, but by being nice and giving directives. I do have to ask her for due dates and additional information often. I would rather have to request than have a leader who tries to motivate through threats and no freedom of creativity. I think she took lessons from Mary Poppins. I already look at her as my mentor and have recently told her this.

She is the one who knows all of the networking ties in the county. She is at work from 8 am to 7 pm. She drives all of our communication. A negative side to her niceness is that other’s do not give her information until last minute pertaining to events. Some do not tell her at all.

Her lacking is with technology. She delegates setup, tear down and presentation devices. I have heard some complain about this. Again, I would prefer her to delegate this and keep her networking skills in full use.

  1. Great assessment of pros and cons with your leadership role. Good to concentrate on ones strengths and delegate the rest.
