BP9 RILS link to my friend John's "Go! Animate Relevant and Innovative Learning Scenario"

I could see using Go! Animate as a tool to pull students into using technology as a tool for using writing lessons. See his lesson at this link.

Kari's plan of using Google Maps in the classroom is very well thought out and can be used for any learning level. Check it out at this link.

Relevant and Innovative Learning Scenario

Sonja Sprague

Brief Overview: Using a blog with students in a creative field such as video, audio and broadcast will advance class interaction

  1. Target Audience- Visual Audio Production Instructors
  2. Materials

o Computer workstation

o Power source

o Internet connection

o Paper

o Writing utensils

o Cellphone or iPad

3. Objectives

At the end of the scenario, instructors and administration will be able to:

Evaluate how involving Video/Audio Production students in multimedia creation and

broadcast will improve student results.

Adapt classroom image to involve multimedia production and broadcast. Currently the

classroom includes video capture and edit only.

Articulate lessons to include posting multimedia documentation of each completed

lesson and or event. More specifically documenting student’s education on the educational access channel (LISD TV) and multimedia Web 2.0 tools.

  1. Procedure

A. Create a blog specifically for the LISD TV maintained by the Visual Audio Production class, managed by LISD Multimedia Technician.

B. Currently the class captures and creates video; add instruction and experience for production, transcoding and video broadcast across multimedia Web 2.0 resources also using in-house video server.

5. Web 2.0 Tool– Blogger www.blogger.com
Blogger is a Web 2.0 tool used to document in reverse progress order such as a journal of events linking to specific items pertaining to the subject reported on the web managed by a group or single person. The purpose of the blog could be to document actions and add social interaction to a subject.

6. Social Participation/Social Learning– The Video Audio Production classroom will change from learning to capture and video edit into a fully productive educational access channel production house for the community’s LISD TV. The addition of using the Graphics class for design, the Marketing class for marketing and the Video Audio Production class for video editing with the addition of documenting the video via multimedia sources. Assignments would include the steps from beginning the broadcast planning all the way through broadcasting the final product. The collected information for the social partners and community will be documented on blog.

  1. Making Connections– Through the approval process, the Communications Coordinator and the Superintendent will provide input. The addition of a blog will give the educational access channel and the classroom social interaction that is managed by full time staff. The student will also connect on different levels of their own knowledge by:

a) Adding to the video capturing and editing skills by learning the processes needed for each individual transcoding and broadcasting outlet.

b) Working towards the end result and more real life scenarios.

c) Adding social awareness not only to the local community, but also the
world wide web.

  1. Create/Produce – New and improved LISD TV Multimedia Studio
  2. Assessment –

· 1st year students will achieve video capture and editing completed videos with introduction to scheduling broadcasting and blog updates.

· 2nd year students will complete 1st year tasks with the addition of blog posting, transcoding and multimedia documentation by broadcasting.

  1. Reflection

a. Each student will create their own blog to document their progress and published materials. Their published work will also remain on the LISD TV blog.

b. The instructor/producer will have a “LISD TV” producer page welcome for student and community comments. This page will help the producer as self reflection documentation and compare with what the public sees.

11. Implementation Outcomes –

1. Instructor #1
This was too advanced, slow down

2. Instructor # 2
Wanted to meet to continue advancing these ideas

3. Instructor #3
Liked the ideas wanting me to move forward

4. Instructor #4
Liked the idea and has her own ideas, but would like to see the ideas in more advanced form.

We will be meeting on Tuesday for more advancement in this process.

PE5 – Blogger Essential Training (2004)

After watching the more the advanced videos about Blogger at www.Lynda.com from 2004, I compared the options and how far they have come. Next I decided to play with some of the features.

Image 1 – Templates

Image 2 – Team Blogging

Image 3 – Delete / Import / Export

Templates
I looked around at all of the template options for editing color, font and more. I changed a few things on my own template. After saving the changes, the changes took effect throughout the entire blog. Nice feature!

Team Blogging

Adding administrators/members would be essential to using Blogger as a team tool in the classroom. The students could comment to the blog posts to include their experience in the conversation while not having full permissions to create posts freely. After each school year the students member status could be removed, yet leaving their information and comments.

Delete / Import / Export

Deleting a blog, importing from another blog and exporting. These features are wonderful as I’d hate to delete a blog. I have 20 or more. I didn’t want to delete my old ones, but I needed the information. Now I know I can export, import, then delete my old blogs. I created these blogs link to my main blog as another page to my blog. Now I can create additional pages instead of linking.

I did not complete the training. It is very outdated, but I appreciate it being there in order to get my mind working about possibilities.

Audioblogger.com

There was an audioblogger.com option. It was removed November 1, 2006. I would have liked to use it. You could call a unique phone number to leave an audio post to your blog. Sigh. At least now you can text, email and use rss feeds.

Help

The help files are much different, but are ten times better.

PE4 - RILS Research 1: Blogger

Becoming and Expert with the Web 2.0 tool: Blogger
Example of my last weeks experience documented on a real live site.
www.jocainemusic.com

How this multimedia blog site pertains to Video and Audio Production in the Classroom.

1. Multimedia use in a real live portfolio

2. Domain forward to a blog.
Experience:

a. Doteasy keeps the .com

b. GoDaddy shows the blogger.com

3. Multimedia widget uses are not all managed and created in the same style. Some are html or embedded code. Some are simple entry or upload such as images or http:// locations. Teaches them to be flexible and problem solve.

4. Twitter feed RSS assists in time management tools. An opportunity to explain and see the feed actually post to other sites.

5. Adding pages instead of adding additional blogs and linking them.

6. Reverbnation.com embedding widgets from code for music and other databases for dates and maps.

7. How to copy and email address vs. the mailto: html feature.

8. Organizing acceptable images for a slideshow in Picasa images, sizing by pixels and creating a slideshow that does not embed, but automatically plays.

9. Formatting and transcoding video for Picasa Web Album. The video was created in iMovie using audio marks. I first tried to embed from Youtube and viddler. The problem was that the video player installed with the embed link allowed the option to play the next video in the library or search term. I did not want it to play any additional video. I tried transcoding and placing a wmv file. This did not play well on the MAC. I landed at the Picasa video. It is still not a good solution because you have to view it in the album, not form the page.

10. Embedding music player, tour dates and map was very difficult. I did not want the music to be downloadable. I used iWeb since the music was stored in my iTunes library. This did not work because I didn’t want to share my iWeb with anyone. It also messed up the linking to my CBR project. I eventually found that JoCaine already used Reverbnation.com. Luckily they had easy widgets to embed. I also got the practice of relinking my iWeb.

11. Link boxes vs. widgets and badges, search site, follow by email, followers box - More multimedia experience for students

12. Archive box, showing progression in reverse (Journal – professional writing experience)

13. Total Page View Box vs. Visitor Location Widget, comparison, not the same, experience measuring IP based counters as well as a tool to document location of visitors. A way to document viewers of the LISD TV and the blog, down to the date, time and city of visitors to assist with target marketing.

14. Store: Embedding images from picasa and how code for paypal can be placed and used in html sources.

15. Using an manipulating design templates, adding graphical experience.

16. copyrights, Permissions and Creative Commons experience.
