Becoming and Expert with the Web 2.0 tool: Blogger
Example of my last weeks experience documented on a real live site.
www.jocainemusic.com
How this multimedia blog site pertains to Video and Audio Production in the Classroom.
1. Multimedia use in a real live portfolio
2. Domain forward to a blog.
Experience:
a. Doteasy keeps the .com
b. GoDaddy shows the blogger.com
3. Multimedia widget uses are not all managed and created in the same style. Some are html or embedded code. Some are simple entry or upload such as images or http:// locations. Teaches them to be flexible and problem solve.
4. Twitter feed RSS assists in time management tools. An opportunity to explain and see the feed actually post to other sites.
5. Adding pages instead of adding additional blogs and linking them.
6. Reverbnation.com embedding widgets from code for music and other databases for dates and maps.
7. How to copy and email address vs. the mailto: html feature.
8. Organizing acceptable images for a slideshow in Picasa images, sizing by pixels and creating a slideshow that does not embed, but automatically plays.
9. Formatting and transcoding video for Picasa Web Album. The video was created in iMovie using audio marks. I first tried to embed from Youtube and viddler. The problem was that the video player installed with the embed link allowed the option to play the next video in the library or search term. I did not want it to play any additional video. I tried transcoding and placing a wmv file. This did not play well on the MAC. I landed at the Picasa video. It is still not a good solution because you have to view it in the album, not form the page.
10. Embedding music player, tour dates and map was very difficult. I did not want the music to be downloadable. I used iWeb since the music was stored in my iTunes library. This did not work because I didn’t want to share my iWeb with anyone. It also messed up the linking to my CBR project. I eventually found that JoCaine already used Reverbnation.com. Luckily they had easy widgets to embed. I also got the practice of relinking my iWeb.
11. Link boxes vs. widgets and badges, search site, follow by email, followers box - More multimedia experience for students
12. Archive box, showing progression in reverse (Journal – professional writing experience)
13. Total Page View Box vs. Visitor Location Widget, comparison, not the same, experience measuring IP based counters as well as a tool to document location of visitors. A way to document viewers of the LISD TV and the blog, down to the date, time and city of visitors to assist with target marketing.
14. Store: Embedding images from picasa and how code for paypal can be placed and used in html sources.
15. Using an manipulating design templates, adding graphical experience.
16. copyrights, Permissions and Creative Commons experience.
